Abstract

Purpose:

Publication data and the influence of publications from researchers at Seoul National University (SNU) frequently influence institutional funding and rankings. However, library services in academia should include communicating research according to altmetrics and bibliometrics and should consider research trends, institutional performance metrics, international collaboration, institutional research priorities and the impact of strategic international collaboration.

Methods:

First of all, we studied examples of the bibliometric and research data management services within universities in Korea and the USA. In addition, we reviewed examples of bibliometric tools. Second, we conducted metadata research at SNU College of Medicine. Finally, we analyzed our metadata using the bibliometric tools Scvial and Altmetrics to propose future bibliometric library services.

Results:

We collected 40,668 published papers from the major abstract databases Web of Science and Scopus. These data are categorized by department and by researcher. SNU Medical Library proposes the following bibliometric services: Hot Articles, Citation, Top Publication List, Usage, Social Media, and SCI/Scopus Recent Articles.

Conclusion:

Library services for bibliometric analysis and research impact could have influence academic community extern and intern. The visualization of the impact of strategic of research and international collaboration could be more motivated to each researcher.
