The purpose of this study is to present 'patients’ library' model adequate for domestic circumstances in Korea. We reviewed literature on patients’ library and analyzed four guidelines (IFLA, MLA 1/2 ed., and Standards for Korean libraries). Coincidental with the literature review and guideline analysis, we conducted a review of some targeting patients’ libraries through visits, telephone interviews and analysis of websites. Through the background research, main components necessary for patients’ library are extracted and structured, which are role, mission and goals, management, organization, facilities, personnel, budgeting, collections, programs and services including consumer health information service, and other considerations. Based on this research, we therefore draw up a set of suggestive three-phase patients’ library model in Korea comprised of crucial elements which are personnel, collection development and services.
